Matthew DeBord

Fellow

Matthew DeBord served as a radio operator in the Marine Corps for 12 years. He attended WSP boot camps at the University of Pennsylvania and the University of Notre Dame. Matthew went on to earn two degrees at Florida International University: a Bachelor of Arts in religious studies and a Bachelor of Accounting with a minor in business analytics. During this time, Matthew served as the treasurer and president of the university’s Student Veterans of America chapter. He was able to design a veteran stole and get it approved by the commencement department and funded by a donor. Matthew received his Master’s of Science in taxation from the University of Miami in 2023. His ultimate goal is to have a career that is veteran- or military-facing, so this fall, he will begin additional undergraduate coursework in veteran’s studies and social work at Saint Leo University.

In his free time, Matthew loves to play with his 3-year-old son and garden. Another hobby of his is to run in marathons. A fun fact about Matthew is that he grew up in Normal, Ill. and has three ancestors who came over on the Mayflower.
