Lead Fellow
Edwin Vasquez Tacam
Edwin Vasquez Tacam served five years in the United States Navy as an Air Traffic Controller before discovering a passion for higher education and community engagement. His decision to pursue college was solidified after attending Warrior-Scholar Project’s Humanities and STEM Boot Camp at Cornell University in 2024, where he found encouragement, mentorship, and a vision for what came next.
Today, Edwin is a junior at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, double majoring in Neuroscience and Psychology. He is deeply involved on campus through the UNC Latinx Center’s ENLACES Volunteer Corps, helping expand educational opportunities for students and families throughout the community. He is also active in the National Association of Hispanic Journalists, contributed to the organization’s first published magazine, and recently joined WXYC 89.3 FM as a student radio DJ, combining his love of music with storytelling and community engagement.
Edwin hopes to pursue a career in medicine while continuing to serve the communities that have shaped him. Outside of academics, he enjoys soccer, weightlifting, kayaking, golf, and just about any activity that combines competition, teamwork, and movement.
