Luis Cornejo

Lead Fellow

Luis Cornejo served four years in the United States Marine Corps as a Tank Mechanic before becoming the first person in his family to attend college. He participated in Warrior-Scholar Project’s academic boot camp at Texas A&M University in 2017, an experience that helped launch a successful academic and professional journey centered on education and public service.

Luis earned a bachelor’s degree in English Literature from the University of California, Berkeley and later completed a Master’s degree in Education from Loyola Marymount University. Since then, he has dedicated his career to serving others, first as a middle school English teacher in Los Angeles and later through his work with the Department of Veterans Affairs, helping veterans access healthcare and critical resources. He currently works in K–12 education and plans to pursue law school in the future.

Mentorship remains at the heart of Luis’s work. He volunteers with Service2School, helping veterans navigate the college admissions process, and serves as an ambassador for Big Brothers Big Sisters. Outside of work, he enjoys photography, participating in local river cleanups, reading science fiction, and finding opportunities to give back to his community.
