Mary Swanson is an assistant public defender at the Fauquier County Public Defender’s Office.
Mary earned her J.D. from the University of the District of Columbia, David A. Clarke School of Law, and holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology with a minor in political science from the University of Southern Maine.

Mary is a post-9/11 veteran who left Maine at age 17 to serve as a Marine Ammunition Technician in the U.S. Marine Corps from 2009 to 2017. She attended a Warrior-Scholar Project academic boot camp at Texas A&M University in 2018 and later served as both a STEM and humanities fellow with Warrior-Scholar Project in 2021 and 2022.
