Redefining Veteran Career Support

WSP is poised to redefine what veteran career support looks like for our alumni and is thrilled to launch Career Pathways Initiative, a new career development program supported by Truist Foundation. It is designed to help WSP alumni answer the question “what’s next?” after graduation. The Career Pathways Initiative sits at the intersection of education and professional development and builds on WSP’s commitment to alumni development.

Tailored to the individual veteran and guided by experts in the field, the initiative aims to cater to the diverse interests and career stages within the WSP alumni community while fostering continuous learning. Alumni can choose a la carte from the suite of professional development opportunities based on their current needs and goals.

Programming available to all WSP alumni includes: 

    • Speaker Series featuring leaders and change-makers in a variety of industries
    • Workshops and Panels featuring career development experts 
    • Networking Events to connect with career advisors and other WSP alums
    • Resource List highlighting the internship, fellowship, apprenticeship, and scholarship opportunities available to alumni

Career Pathways Initiative Scholars (CPIS) Program

WSP alumni looking to receive more detailed instruction can apply to the Career Pathways Initiative Scholars (CPIS) program, an in-depth curriculum-based program that bridges education goals to career goals. Scholars will receive mentorship and professional advice, including structured programming aimed at career exploration and one-on-one support that will assist with finding a well-matched career that offers a sense of purpose and navigating the job market.

WSP alumni in the CPIS cohort will complete a five-month career development course with targeted programming aimed at: 

  • Exploration of different types of professions, including pre-professional opportunities 
  • Understanding employment applications and hiring processes
  • Crafting an individualized development plan with goals and objectives 
  • Discussing career fit across various industries
  • Developing a peer and professional network
  • Identifying personal brand and unique values statements

Additionally, WSP alumni chosen for CPIS receive: 

  • Recurring on-demand programming
  • Access to WSPConnect, an online learning platform to support participant engagement by providing resources and community forums 
  • Mentorship opportunities with professionals across multiple sectors 
  • Workshops and panels featuring industry experts 
  • One-on-one consultations with independent contractors in a variety of industries 
  • Networking opportunities to help alumni build connections while navigating their career pathways

Who is eligible?

WSP alumni who have completed an academic boot camp can join any of the monthly virtual programming via Slack, email, or newsletter. All alumni can participate in the CPI programming. However, an application must be submitted to participate in the CPIS program. There is no restriction on enrollment status – alumni can be currently in school, graduated, or taking time off – or employment status. Applications for CPIS are reviewed to determine if the program will be valuable for each potential CPIS participant based on information provided by the applicant.
